A SMALL NOTE ON BIG THINGS
Big Things are easy to remember. Big Things almost never get lost. It would be very strange, for example, if tomorrow you saw someone walking down the street, scartching their head and saying to themselves: ‘Now where did I put Bristol?’
Bristol is a Big Thing, you see.
It’s the Small Things which tend to get forgotten. They are always slipping from our heads, like pennies down a sofa. It would not be very strange at all, for example, if tomorrow you saw someone by the side of the road, scratching their head and saying to themselves: ‘Now where did I put that contact lens?’
Or, ‘What’s the name of the little dot thing that goes on top of the letter i?’1
Or even, ‘Can you get me an ice-cream with raspberry sauce?’2
Questions like these will always be asked, because people have a habit of forgetting about the Small Things. But just because something, or someone, is small doesn’t mean they aren’t very, very important.
Like Hercufleas for example…
